A lot of truth in that maxim, even regarding wrinkles.
It may surprise you to know how little time and expense is required to have a youthful complexion, when you eat and drink properly.
Of course, not everyone does that, but more than enough have in order to prove the point. Get the eating part right, and you most assuredly won’t spend near as much money on moisturizers, facial creams with antioxidants, exfoliating, and/or plastic surgery. Though, as you age, all but the plastic surgery may be helpful, the doses applied will be much smaller (which means your facial care products will last a lot longer), and there will never be a need for plastic surgery, at least not for wrinkles.Sexy Attire
Apply a little common sense and it’s easy to see why. When your diet consists of the proper mix of alkaline rich foods (fresh fruits and vegetables), along with the more acidic foods (meat, eggs, dairy, white bread and pasta), you are creating an internal and external bodily environment that optimizes the potential for good health, which also reflects in the appearance of your skin.
It gets much of the hydration it requires from within, meaning less moisturizers needed, and since fresh fruits and vegetables are high in antioxidants, you’ll have less of a need to apply antioxidant type creams to keep your youthful look. All of this means less exfoliating required as well, therefore resulting in saving time and money on that wrinkle care task.
One of the primary goals in eating the right diet is to maintain a proper pH balance.
Dr. Patricia Wexler, a New York City dermatologist, explains the importance of pH balance in stating that “the skin’s outer layer, called the acid mantle, is what keeps moisture and lipids in, while it blocks bacteria, toxins, and germs in general. For optimum effects, you need to maintain a pH balance of around 5.5.”
Skin becomes too sensitive and dry, when too alkaline, but a pH below 5.5 is too acidic, which weakens the skin’s ability to resist environmental damage and bacterial infections. As we age, our skin by nature becomes more acidic, simply due to the fact that we have had more exposure to the sun, polluted air, cleaning products, smoke, and even tap water.
According to Dermatologist Dr. Jeannette Graf, “We need our diets to be less acidic than alkaline, otherwise internally, we become too acidic.” Consuming more alkalizing foods, such as fresh fruits and vegetables (particularly the leafy type), will help offset the body’s tendency to become more acidic with age. A diet consisting of a mix of approximately 60% alkaline and 40% acidic generally creates the ideal pH, and will be evident in your skins healthy appearance.
